Gathering United: What Families Can Expect at Harvest Minds Project’s Youth & Family Conference

One Community. One Family. One Future.
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, Harvest Minds Project will welcome youth, families, mentors, educators, and community partners to the Gathering United Youth & Family Conference. The free conference will take place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at WinSan Center, 353 S New Road, Pleasantville, NJ 08232.
This gathering is designed to create space for learning, encouragement, connection, and practical support. It reflects our belief that children and families thrive when they have access to caring relationships, meaningful opportunities, trusted resources, and a community that sees their potential.
Whether you are a parent, caregiver, young person, educator, mentor, or neighbor, you are invited to be part of a day centered on whole-child and whole-family well-being.
A day built around connection
The Gathering United Youth & Family Conference will bring people together through interactive workshops, educational sessions, community conversations, and connections to continued support.
Families can expect an environment where questions are welcomed, experiences are respected, and every participant has an opportunity to learn. The conference will focus on the strengths already present in families and communities while offering tools that can support continued growth.
Our work is grounded in a simple commitment: meet immediate needs while creating long-term opportunities. That means supporting young people today and helping families build confidence, stability, and hope for the future.
The conference is also part of Harvest Minds Project’s broader commitment to holistic community development. Through our Programs in Action, we connect food security, education, arts, leadership development, media arts, and community partnerships to strengthen the whole community.
Youth leadership and empowerment
Young people need more than encouragement. They need opportunities to practice leadership, share their ideas, build skills, and see themselves as contributors to the future of their families and communities.
Gathering United will create space for youth leadership and empowerment through age-appropriate learning, group activities, and conversations that affirm the voice and value of every young person.
Participants can expect encouragement around:
- Communication and teamwork
- Confidence and public speaking
- Problem-solving and positive action
- Civic engagement and community participation
- Goal-setting and personal growth
- Leadership through service and integrity
These themes reflect the work of The Leadership Lab, Harvest Minds Project’s leadership development initiative. The Leadership Lab supports youth and adults as they develop the communication, problem-solving, civic, and organizational skills needed to lead with purpose.
We believe leadership is not limited to a title or position. It is demonstrated through service, courage, responsibility, and action.

Mentoring and positive role models
Supportive relationships can help young people navigate challenges, recognize their strengths, and imagine new possibilities. Mentoring gives youth access to trusted adults who listen, encourage, and offer guidance without taking away a young person’s agency.
The conference will highlight the importance of positive role models and consistent support. Families will have opportunities to learn more about how mentoring relationships can encourage healthy development, academic growth, confidence, and leadership.
This focus is especially important in communities where young people may face barriers to opportunity. Strong mentors, caring families, and engaged community members can help create a network of support that encourages every child to keep growing.
Harvest Minds Project’s approach to youth leadership programs as a nonprofit is grounded in relationships. We do not simply provide information and step away. We work to build pathways of connection, participation, and continued support.
Prevention and healthy decision-making
Prevention begins with honest, age-appropriate conversations. Youth need safe spaces where they can ask questions, understand consequences, identify trusted adults, and practice making decisions that support their health and future.
Gathering United will include educational sessions and community conversations focused on prevention and healthy decision-making. These discussions may help youth and families think through issues related to peer pressure, conflict, safety, substance use prevention, emotional regulation, and responsible choices.
The goal is not to create fear. It is to strengthen awareness, confidence, communication, and connection.
Families will be encouraged to continue these conversations at home. Small moments of listening and guidance can become important foundations for trust.
Mental and emotional well-being
Whole-child support must include mental and emotional well-being. Children, teens, caregivers, and families all benefit from spaces where they can talk about stress, emotions, relationships, and the importance of asking for help.
The conference will connect participants with information and encouragement related to mental wellness. Families can learn about the value of supportive communication, healthy coping strategies, and community-based resources.
Through our Community Resources, Harvest Minds Project helps connect individuals and families with services related to mental health, education, food assistance, family support, workforce development, and wellness.
We believe seeking support is a sign of strength. No one should have to face a difficult season alone, and every family deserves access to information and care that can help them move forward.
Family engagement and stronger relationships
Families are essential partners in a young person’s growth. Gathering United will make room for parents, caregivers, grandparents, siblings, and other supportive adults to participate in the conversation.
Family engagement may include discussions about:
- Building trust across generations
- Supporting youth goals and education
- Communicating through challenges
- Creating healthy routines and boundaries
- Finding community support
- Encouraging confidence and self-sufficiency
These conversations are not about expecting families to have every answer. They are about sharing wisdom, learning together, and recognizing that support becomes stronger when it is shared.
As a family support programs community organization, Harvest Minds Project works to connect people with practical resources and trusted partnerships. We understand that family well-being includes many connected needs, from education and mental wellness to food security, safety, and economic opportunity.

Violence and bullying prevention
Every child and family deserves to feel safe, respected, and included. The conference will address violence and bullying prevention through education, awareness, and constructive community dialogue.
Participants will be encouraged to consider how families, schools, mentors, and neighbors can work together to promote respect and respond to harmful behavior. Prevention is a shared responsibility, and meaningful change grows through communication, accountability, and care.
Young people can be part of building safer environments. Adults can model healthy conflict resolution and ensure that youth know where to turn for help. Together, we can create spaces where differences are respected and every person’s dignity is protected.
Education and career readiness
Education opens doors, and career readiness helps young people see how their interests and skills can connect to future opportunities.
Gathering United will include educational content that encourages youth to think about their goals, strengths, and next steps. Families may learn about the importance of school engagement, skill-building, leadership experience, mentorship, and preparation for future education or employment.
Career readiness begins long before a first job application. It grows through communication, persistence, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and the confidence to keep learning.
These are the same qualities Harvest Minds Project seeks to nurture through education and skill-building opportunities. We want young people to see a future filled with possibility and to know that their community is invested in their growth.
Arts, self-expression, and creativity
Creative expression gives young people another way to communicate, reflect, and connect. Arts activities can support confidence while helping participants explore identity, culture, emotions, and ideas.
The conference will include opportunities for arts and self-expression as part of its whole-child approach. Through creative activities, youth and families can experience the value of imagination, collaboration, and shared expression.
Harvest Minds Project’s community arts and media arts programming reflects our belief that creativity enriches the mind and inspires the soul. Every person has a voice, and every voice deserves a meaningful place in the community.

Connections to continued support
Gathering United is designed to be more than a single day. Participants will have opportunities to connect with community resources, organizations, and programs that can provide continued support after the conference.
Families may discover pathways related to:
- Youth leadership and mentoring
- Education and career preparation
- Mental health and wellness
- Family support
- Food assistance and nutrition
- Arts and media programs
- Workforce and economic opportunity
- Community engagement
Our community development programs are built around connection. We work with schools, nonprofits, faith communities, businesses, volunteers, and local partners to help ensure that individuals and families can access the tools they need to thrive.
